GET YOUR STORY INTO PRINT
Have a good story about living well? Lois Frankel, author of "Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office" is in the beginning stages of thinking about a new "nice girls" book called "Nice Girls Pay Retail: 100 Strategies to Live a Rich Life on a Budget." It would be a compilation of the "best practices" of women who like nice things and have found a way to get them without paying full price. It will include things like travel, dining out, cruises, clothes, car and home buying, etc. If you have any stories you'd like to contribute she'd love to hear them. Send your stories to Lois through her website at www.drloisfrankel.com
An Alarm System You Already Have
Thanks to Carolyn Howard-Johnson, award winning author for the following:
This is a really cool idea. Next time you come home for the night and you to put your keys away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Start keeping your car keys next to your bed on the night-stand when you go to bed at night.
If you think someone is trying to get into your house, or if you hear a noise outside your house, just press the panic alarm on your car key chain. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere Inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around.....after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. Try it to make sure it works before you rely on it. Just know that you must press the alarm button again to turn it off.
And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there..... |

A LITTLE HISTORY
Thanks to Vickie Siedow for the following:
Women's rights convention held in New York
Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton led the first women's rights convention today in Seneca Falls, New York. The event helped initiate the battle for women's rights and suffrage. A commentary in the Waukesha Democrat from July 20, 1848, shows the sentiment of the time that these women were fighting. "If woman was more thoughtful and opinionative than she is, she would only be more troublesome to man when he is yoked to her. If woman were not fond of dress and dressing, who could clothe and deck the little children so neatly? Would man do it? And will literary and philosophical women do it? Not they; they suffer their children to go in rags, rather than mend or darn. It requires a fortune to keep a philosophical wife," the paper read in 1848.
